Easter Monday

Easter Monday is a public holiday in New Zealand.

The first Easter Monday holiday in New Zealand was celebrated in 1840, and it was initially recognised as a religious holiday by the Anglican Church.

However, as the country became more secular, Easter Monday was adopted as a national holiday, and it became a day for families to spend time together.

In the early 20th century, Easter Monday became a day for sporting events, with horse racing and rugby matches being popular activities.

In some regions of the country, Easter Monday is still associated with the annual A&P (agricultural and pastoral) shows, which feature livestock exhibits, fair rides, and other attractions.
